News forwarded to us via Willie: Skip Mast is an RCCD life member who now lives and flies in Florida. He sends pictures of his latest project. It is an electric-powered C-130. At 1/12 scale it has a 130 inch wing span and weighs 38 lbs. It is powered by four Turnigy SK35045 motors turning 14x10 props. Power to them comes from four 6S 5000 mAH batteries and 41 amp ESCs. Skip had a successful maiden flight on September 1st and said it flew better than any of his other C-130s. Great project Skip!

In the past, Skip has competed in World Scale competition.

EAA Chapter 13 held a fly-in pancake breakfast at the Ray Airport. RCCD supported our EAA friends by displaying a few of our R/C models and performing a few demo flights while the "full-size guys" waited for the mist to burn off. Once they could get airborne from their home fields and fly in, we went to"static display" mode. . . . and enjoyed a great breakfast among other aviation enthusiasts. Thanks to all who participated.

How do you think Jim feels about flying his N3N? Perhaps the smile is a hint . . .

They offered to cover my refueling after the demo flight !

New Startup Tables at the Field

We have a number of well designed, well constructed, and safe to use startup tables at the field to replace the ones that have served us well, but were starting to fall apart.

Rattlesnake, provides this video on the easiest way to move tables out for your flying session, and to move them off the grass before you leave so the grass is clear for cutting.

Click on the picture to watch the video. Depending on your browser, you may see a message to download the video. Go ahead and download it and and watch it.

This is slick!

3/21/14 We will be making some new starting tables this spring. This RC Universe link answers many of the questions you may have about the proposed design.

IMPORTANT: State of Michigan Recreation Passport required for RCCD flying field access.

A term of our new lease with the State of Michigan, is that a Recreation Passport is required for access to Wetzel State Park, just like any other State park in Michigan. The new lease is effective from January 2014. If you already have the Passport tab on your licence plate you comply and don't need to do anything more. If not please go to the Michigan DNR website for details.

Note that this is a State of Michigan requirement.
